A FUNDRAISER for Burnley and Bolton Wanderers legend Gary Parkinson will take place next month.

The Gary Parky Trophy will be staged at CMB FC in Bolton on June 22 and family and officials are calling on football fans to join in the celebration.

Ex-Clarets star David Eyres will line up for one of the teams while Lee Turnbull, who played with Parkinson at Middlesbrough, will be in action for the other side.

Parkinson made 135 appearances for Burnley and was a Turf Moor legend, scoring the winning goal in the Division Two play-off in 1994 at Wembley.

The 51-year-old suffered a stroke in 2010 and has been battling locked-in syndrome.

His son Luke said: “It was an idea by Alex Ford at CMB as my dad and his dad used to run the Sacred Heart Primary School team in Westhoughton.

“So we tried to get as many of the players together and they are paying £25 to play.

“It would be good to get a lot of people from Burnley who used to watch dad and it is free but you can make a donation to the Gary Parkinson Trust.

“He is going to be there and it would be great to get as many people to see him.”

The 25-year-old says his dad has many fond memories with the Clarets.

He said: “He scored in the Wembley final and that is one of his greatest memories. He still sees some of the Burnley players such as David Eyres, Jamie Hoyland and Steve Thompson.”

He added: “He is not doing bad. We are trying to get him out and about.

“Preston North End did a retro day against Ipswich and dad went to watch it.

“He is just busy getting physio and most of the time he is at home but we try to go away to a cottage where he can relax.”
