A 91-YEAR-OLD man who suffered a haemorrhage after a fall at a care home died as a result of an accident, a coroner ruled.

Anthony Daly was found collapsed on the floor of his room in Moorhead Rest Home in Clayton-le-Moors on March 9.

Mr Daly, who was born in Church in 1927 and suffered from dementia, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital, but a CT scan showed he had suffered an intracranial haemorrhage.

It was then determined that Mr Daly was unfit for surgery and he was discharged back to the care home for end of life care where he died on March 17, an inquest at Preston Coroner's Court heard.

The hearing read out a written statement from PC Edward Ross, who said he had spoken to Tina Macneall, manager of the care home on Whalley Road, who said that Mr Daly had been feeling generally unwell.

PC Ross said: "She told me a GP had also attended the care home and had taken tests.

"Mr Daly stayed in bed on the 7th and seemed a little better on the 8th.

"But on the 9th he was found collapsed on the floor at around 8.40am in his room."

Dr Kathleen Hewitt, of Clayton Medical Centre, offered a medical cause of Mr Daly's death as an intracranial haemorrhage as well as artrial fibrillation and dementia.

Recording a conclusion of accidental death, coroner Richard Taylor, said: "This was an unwitnessed collapse in his care home.

"The injuries were far more significant than first though.

"Mr Daly died from injuries sustained in an unwitnessed fall at the care home."
