A NEW flagship 10k race is coming to Blackburn – and will see hundreds of runners start and finish at Ewood Park.

The event will raise funds for Blackburn Rovers Community Trust – and as aimed at everyone from seasoned runners to beginners and people wanting to get fit.

Runners will race along a route through Blackburn – passing through Townsmoor, Canterbury Street, King Street and Witton – before making their way back to the Rovers ground for a grandstand finish.

Racers will get a chipped time result, a medal and a free official event photo.

Cllr Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s regeneration boss, said: “This sounds like a great event that is going to take place in Blackburn.

“We are always pleased when events such as this will bring a lot of footfall through the town centre.

“It is also pleasing to see an event which is encouraging people to be more physically active.

“I hope the event attracts a great crowd and lots of people take part.”

A spokesman for Blackburn Rovers Community Trust, said: “We had been looking into organising a 10k run through Blackburn and were then approached by Matt Wood at Run Through Events who specialises in organising 10k runs, half marathons and marathons.

“Matt, who is originally from Blackburn was keen to work with Blackburn Rovers Community Trust to host the start and finish of a 10k through Blackburn.

“There are lots of local running groups in Blackburn that may be helpful when preparing for the 10k.

“If you are a beginner, try to get involved in the Blackburn Couch To 5k and build your miles up to give you some starting confidence." A portion of each entry fee will be donated to Blackburn Rovers Community Trust.
