HOMEOWNERS are being encouraged to look at "smart security" measures as part of their springtime spruce-up.
Security experts at Yale say they want to challenge misconceptions that only professionals can install hi-tech home security.
Outdoor cameras and smart home alarms controlled by your smartphone can work as an "excellent visual deterrent" to potential burglars, they say. Homes fitted with cameras as 90 per cent less likely to get broken into, according to statistics.
Yale says homeowners should not overlook traditional security measures such as cylinders and night latches, and ensuring your locks are Kitemarked.
Stephen Roberts, Yale's marketing manager, said; “Fitting security products is easier than ever thanks to wireless systems and app-controlled technology.
"Our Spring into Action campaign will hopefully encourage more homeowners, both male and female, to tackle the security of their home using smart home security.”
