LEIGHTON Hall, the historic home of the furniture-making Gillow family, has opened its doors for the summer 2019 season.

The Gothic house, near Carnforth, is open Tuesday to Friday, 2pm to 5pm, from May to September, plus Bank Holiday Sundays and Mondays, and all August Sundays.

The family prides itself on Leighton Hall being "still very much the family home it has been for centuries". Nothing is roped off and visitors are invited to sit on the family sofa, climb the elegant "flying staircase" and take their place at the priceless Gillow dining table.

The attraction also offers a tearoom, 19th century walled garden, woodland walks, a playground, mini maze and, weather permitting, a birds of prey display.

Special events include August's teddy bear treasure hunt, Wind in the Willows outdoor theatre, Shakespeare in the Garden, a classic car rally and motorcycle sprint.

Owner Suzie Reynolds, who conducts entertaining house tours, said: "The house really comes alive when its rooms are full of people chatting, exploring and having fun. We’ve so many treasures and talking points inside and out, people from all over the world love visiting."

She added: "We’d love to welcome more visitors from just down the road, so why not make 2019 the year you discover Leighton Hall."
