A MAN looking for his estranged wife smashed a window at his sister's home with a child's scooter after she refused to let him in.

Blackburn magistrates heard when police went to arrest Khalil Ahmed Afzal he became aggressive and had to be pepper sprayed.

Afzal, 31, of Monk Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to criminal damage and resisting a police officer.

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £150 compensation for the window and a £30 victim surcharge.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Afzal went to his sister's home because he believed his estranged wife was there with their child.

"He started kicking the door and his sister told him he wasn't allowed in," said Mrs Yates.

"At that point he picked up a scooter and threw it at the window."

Duncan Nightingale, defending, said his client claimed arrangements had been made for him to go and see his son but when he got there he wasn't allowed to.

"They wouldn't open the door and shouted that his son was dead to him," said Mr Nightingale.

"He admits that he lost his temper.

"He says that when the police arrived to arrest him he was pepper sprayed without warning and admits resisting on the basis that he ran off."
