Fire crews were called to a blaze in an attic.
Two fire engines attended the incident at a house in Colne Road, Burnley, just before 7pm on Thursday.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: "The incident involved smoke in the attic of a property and firefighters used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel to extinguish the flames.
"A second breathing apparatus team were committed to the adjoining property to investigate and ensure the fire hadn’t spread."
Crews were at the scene for just over three hours.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
