A SPECIAL concert for Holy Week will be performed by the Renaissance Singers at Blackburn Cathedral tonight.

The chamber choir, conducted by Cathedral music director Samuel Hudson, will sing works by Bruckner and Palestrina at 7.30pm.

The event marks the beginning of Easter celebrations at Lancashire’s premier Anglican church.

They will continue tomorrow, Maundy Thursday, with a Diocesan Chrism eucharist to bless the oils used in baptisms and other sacraments for use across the Diocese of Blackburn at 11am and the washing of feet at 7.30pm.

On Good Friday a pilgrimage in prayer will be led by the young people’s choir at 10am, followed by the liturgy sung by the Cathedral choir at 2pm.

Easter Sunday services begin at 9am with the parish communion followed by the eucharist at which the preacher will be the Bishop of Blackburn the Rt Rev Julian Henderson at 10.30am.

A festal evensong will be sung by the cathedral choir and the girls' choir at 4pm.

Tickets for tonight’s concert are £10 and free for under 16s.
