FIREFIGHTERS are asking parents to keep an eye on their children after their fifth call-out to nuisance rubbish fires in the same Blackburn street in a fortnight.

They were called again to Scotland Bank Terrace on Wednesday at 7pm.

Crew manager John Riley said: “It is just a waste of resources and is becoming a nuisance to the people who are living nearby.

“It must be hard for the neighbours seeing us turning up with the blue lights flashing to put out the fires.

“It was bags of rubbish on Wednesday but before that we had to deal with wheelie bins and even mattresses on fire.

“When we arrived on Wednesday there were a few youths in the area and they all ran off.

“So I would urge all parents in the area to know where their children are and make sure they are not doing things like this.

“It is meaning we are tied up dealing with these fires when we could be needed for something else.

“Unfortunately we don’t know what we are going out to until we get there.”

Mr Riley also urged people to keep their wheelie bins stored safely and locked up.
