A FUNDRAISING page has been set up following the tragic death of a 17-year-old on his birthday.

Dylan Robinson was found unconscious and not breathing in his bedroom on March 10 and an ambulance was called to help the schoolboy, who was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago.

Paramedics were able to restore his heartbeat, but Dylan was unable to breathe by himself and he was put on a life-support machine once he arrived at hospital.

Later his parents were faced with the heartbreaking decision to turn off his life support as there was nothing doctors could do for Dylan.

He left a life-saving legacy, however, by stating it was always his wish to donate his organs.

Family friend Nikita Taylor said: “The doctors did all they could but he had no brain activity.

“They did many tests and provided all the support they could for the next couple of days but unfortunately there was nothing that they could do.

“His parents had to make a decision that no one should ever have to make: to turn off the life support.”

Described by friends as kind and caring, it is thought the Accrington teenager died from complications of his condition.

Ms Taylor said: “He had to have multiple injections each day to stay healthy.

“Back at the beginning of the year he had some issues in his sleep from complications from his diabetes.

“One episode was severe and luckily his dad had found him in time and they managed to get him to the hospital and stabilise him.”

The football-loving teen told his parents at that point that if anything were ever to happen to him he wanted to be an organ donor.

Ms Taylor said: “Out of this tragedy will come hope for others, a decision that sums up Dylan perfectly as he was kind and caring.

“This should have been a day of celebration as it was Dylan’s 17th birthday but instead it is a day his parents will never forget.

“We are looking to the kindness of the community at large to ease the financial burden for his family and hopefully give him a send-off that would make him smile, give his family and friends closure and opportunity to grieve that they need and allow his friends and family to pay their respects to him.”

Dylan’s funeral took place on Thursday, but a GoFundMe page remains open for anybody who wishes to help the family financially.

Around £650 has been raised out of a £4,500 target and many have paid tribute to the teen.

One donor said: “My deepest sympathies to Dylan’s family, my heart goes out to you all.

“My son is type one diabetic and the fear never goes away. Rest in peace.”

Another added: “You will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know you Dylan.”
