A YOUNG driver involved in a freak accident has thanked workmen whom saved her.

Jess Allen was driving along Blackburn Road, near the Co-operative store in Darwen, when she lost control of her Ford Fiesta and it flipped onto its roof.

The 20-year-old says the incident was a bit of a blur but recalls the moment when she was upside down and two men in fluorescent jackets were trying to help her.

The Darwen woman, who escaped with just cuts and bruises, said: "I was tested for everything – alcohol and drugs and nothing came of that.

"I was not speeding and there is proof of that and I was not using my phone either.

“It was just a freak accident as I think I may have hit a rock and then next thing I know my car is on its roof.

“Somebody told me that there were some men from the council who were working late as there were large pipes being transported through Darwen.

“When I came round the men were talking to me seeing if I was okay but it was a bit of a blur.

"I just thought that was it, there was smoke in the car but whether it was the rubber from the crash I don’t know.

“One of the men was behind me in the car and the other was releasing my seatbelt. There was a lot of glass on the roof and they were lowering me so I could get out safely. I got my head put in a brace and on the stretcher so I could not really see them when I was taken away.

“If I got the chance to see them I would give them a big hug to thank them."

A Lancashire Police spokesman said they attended the incident. Do you know anyone who helped Jess? Call 01254 298395 or email robert.kelly@nqnw.co.uk
