VICTIMS of a town's mining disaster will be remembered with a new memorial stone.

Hapton Heritage will be unveiling the stone on Hapton Recreation Ground Peace Garden from 11am this Friday.

The Burnley memorial stone will remember those who were killed or injured in the Hapton Valley Mining Disaster on March 22, 1962.

It has been described as the darkest day in the history of mining in Burnley as the explosion ripped through the Union Seam at Hapton Valley Colliery that morning and 19 miners lost their lives.

The memorial stone's unveiling will be officiated by the local vicar and visitors will include school children from the local area.
