THE news that Colwyn Bay FC have decided to join the Welsh non-league system next season could offer a relegation reprieve for Kendal Town.

Two teams are, under normal circumstances, relegated from the Evo-Stik West division, and as Kendal Town currently sit second from bottom with games running out, they are in serious danger of the drop.

But mid-table Colwyn Bay recently announced that they were considering leaving the Evo-Stik League and joining the Welsh non-league pyramid due to financial issues.

And last night at a meeting at the North Wales club, a vote went in favour of the move and the club confirmed they intend to abide by the vote.

This opens up the possibility that if Bay leave, only one club will be relegated from the Evo-Stik West, meaning the Mintcakes would only need to finish above basement boys Skelmersdale, who beat Town 1-0 on Tuesday, to stay up.

However, the position is far from cut and dried as the non-league pyramid is often subject to changes and rearrangements between leagues, and confirmation of the situation is only expected to emerge in the coming weeks once Bay's expected resignation is received by Evo-Stik officials.
