A JAGUAR owned by a councillor was left parked on double yellow lines on the corner of a town centre junction – blocking a dropped kerb.

The dark blue Jaguar XK8 belongs to the former leader of the Ribble Valley Borough Council Ken Hind, though it is currently unknown who parked the car there.

A photograph showing the illegally parked vehicle on Railway View Avenue, Clitheroe, was uploaded to social media last week and has generated hundreds of comments online.

Councillors have now weighed in on the argument with one branding the parking ‘irresponsible’.

Sarah Matthews, of Whalley, also pointed out that the car was parked directly opposite a Shopmobility premises.

She said: “Seeing this just made me so angry.

"People wanting to use the dropped kerb – of whom there are many as Shopmobility is just over the road – had to find an alternative route all because of this lazy parking.

“Councillor Hind has regularly spoken out about road safety across the borough and has just this week endorsed a campaign by Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans, who is calling on the council to install traffic safety measures in Sabden.”

The councillor’s Jaguar, complete with a personalised number plate, is often seen parked on Railway View Avenue as the Conservative Association’s offices are located on the street.

Mr Hind stepped down as leader of the council at the start of the year over a row which saw a number of Conservative councillors step away from the party to form their own Democratic Conservative group.

Whalley ward councillor Terry Hill was one of them.

Cllr Hill said: “By doing this Ken Hind, or whoever parked the vehicle, is showing a complete disregard for anyone else but himself.

“Not only are they parked illegally on double yellow lines, but the back half of the vehicle is sticking out into the road.

“It is dangerous and irresponsible.

“He should know better as a local public figure and someone who has spoken out so often about road safety.”

Conservative Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans added: “Whoever was driving the car at the time has clearly parked badly and I do hope better care is taken in the future.”

Councillor Hind was unavailable for comment.
