A MAN was taken to hospital after he was assaulted by two thugs down an alleyway.

At around 5.40am on Monday morning, a 33-year-old man was walking down the passage at the rear of Infirmary Street when he was approached by two men who asked him for a lighter.

The two men then began to attack the victim, pushing him to the floor where they continued their assault.

They then searched his pockets and stole the small amount of money he had.

The victim suffered injuries to his head, legs and arms and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The offenders escaped in the direction of Bryan Street and Pritchard Street, and police are now appealing for help in tracking them down.

The first man is described as being 6 foot 1 and of slim build. He was wearing black pants, green trainers and a black waterproof jacket.

The second is described as wearing a baseball cap, dark pants and had a stud bar in his eyebrow. He was around 5ft 6in tall and of stocky build.

Both are said to have spoken with Eastern European accents.

DC Phil Scott said: “This has been a nasty robbery which has caused some injuries to the man and has obviously left him shook up.

“If you were in the area and saw anything or have any information that could help our investigation, we would like to speak to you.”
