A PENSIONER has thanked his ‘lucky stars’ after scooping a quarter of a million pounds from his winning lottery ticket.

A man who wishes to only be known as Robin, from Burnley, received a huge surprise when the cashier at Accrington Tesco advised he had won a prize sum too large to redeem in store.

He was told days after bosses at Health Lottery launched a public appeal to find the owner of the £250,000 Mega Raffle ticket, which had been purchased in a supermarket in East Lancashire.

Robin said he was left in “complete shock” after learning he had the winning ticket.

The 80-year-old said: “My stars told me in January that I was going to come into some luck, so I guess you could say it was written in the stars.”

The Burnley man said he plans to share a proportion of the winnings with his son and donate to the six charities that he and his wife support, including Cats Protection, Dogs For The Blind and British Legion.

Robin said he also plans to buy a new car and chase the sunshine with his wife and plans to destination hop, including in the Caribbean.

He added: “I really couldn’t be happier.”

The next £250,000 Mega Raffle will take place on March 1.
