A COUPLE have happily tied the knot after first meeting each other on a dating app.

Electrical engineer Mike Cairns, 32 and admin assistant Kirsty Hetherington, 33 tied the knot on May 20 last year amongst their closest family and friends.

Mike, from Askam and Kirsty originally from Barrow first met back in April 2015 when they started speaking to each other on a dating app.

Initially, Kirsty was apprehensive about meeting Mike as his messages were somewhat “boring.” However, knowing how nice he was Kirsty decided to agree to a first date.

Now when they first met at The Village Inn in Newton things could not have been more different.

The couple really hit it off and Kirsty even said: “He was a completely different person when we met. His personality really came out showing how funny and charming he is.”

Over a year later the couple then had a daughter on August 11 2016 who they called Isla Cairns.

Kirsty describes having Isla as a “blessing in disguise” and the most “perfect thing ever” helping to bring the couple even closer together.

When they first brought Isla home on August 14 there was also another surprise waiting for Kirsty, which included many presents from family and friends celebrating Isla's arrival.

Later on that day there was also another surprise as Mike got down on one knee asking for her hand in marriage.

Kirsty said: "I was very emotional so much so that I was crying and nearly forgot to say yes - I was so surprised."

The couple then decided to get married on May 20 2018 at the Armathwaite Hall in Keswick amongst their closest family and friends.

For the ceremony and during the day they were joined by 50 guests for an intimate celebration.

20 more guests then joined in the evening for more festivities.

Kirsty said: "We really wanted an intimate celebration and everything was really, really good -we couldn't have asked for a better day."

The weather on the day was a "perfect" Spring day and everyone who attended had a wonderful time.

The ceremony was held at Armathwaite Hall and guests were also treated to a fantastic three-course sit down meal.

On the evening there was also bacon and sausage sandwiches on offer.

Everything on the day was perfect however the registrar did make a pretty large mistake by saying the best man's name rather than Mike's name. However, Kirsty said how funny everyone found it and how it really helped everyone to relax and "break the ice."

After the day the couple whisked of to Rome for a three-day minimoon and then went on a seven-day cruise on the Mediterranean Sea with Isla.

The couple would like to thank everyone who attended their day and made it so special.

The would like to offer particular thanks to both their parents for all the help and support they have given for the wedding.

They would also like to thank everyone from Armathwaite Hall for helping everything to run so smoothly.

Finally, they would like to thank their photographers Klair and Eddie Flint (www.klairflintphotography.com) for making such perfect memories for them to look back on.
