A CHILD ran out of school during yesterday morning's dropping off time.

The five-year-old boy had ran from the breakfast club in the hall through a set of fire doors and out of Meadowhead Community Infant School's front gates in Blackburn.

The boy was followed by a member of staff and brought back into school.

The school's headteacher, Sue Mellor, said: "Meadowhead Community Infant School takes its responsibility for pupil safety very, very seriously.

"This incident happened when a child in reception class ran from the breakfast club in the hall through the fire doors and out of the school gates which were open as it was dropping off time at the start of the day.

"A member of staff saw this and followed straight away, had the child in their sights and quickly caught up with the child close to the school and made sure he was safe and secure.

"The child’s parents have been fully informed and I want to reassure parents that our safety procedures are very robust and no harm came to the child during this incident."
