ELECTRIC car charging bays have been proposed for the Booths supermarket at Kirkby Lonsdale.
Hampshire-based InstaVolt Ltd is planning four pay-as-you-go, rapid-charge stations in the shoppers' car park.
According to its website, the company's 50kWh+ chargers are capable of adding hundreds of kilometres of range in minutes.
All the electricity supplied comes from 100 per cent renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind farms.
The plans for the Dodgson Croft site are with South Lakeland District Council.
