STORM Erik left its mark on East Lancs today as a tree was blown onto a bus stop.

The large tree had crashed through the bus stop on Preston Road, Chorley at around 4am.

Adrian Sherlock, who had been walking into town, said he saw the tree which had been taped off.

Lancashire Telegraph:

He said: "It was a miracle that it landed where it did.

"If it had gone the other way into the road and into a car or a pedestrian it would have been so much worse.

"I have looked on Facebook and some people are commenting that it happened at 4am this morning.

"It was lucky no-one was actually at the bus stop or walking in the area.

"It must have been a very strong gust of wind because I was looking at the roots of the tree.

"It was lucky that it did not also crash into those buildings next to it or the car park."

Lancashire Telegraph:

Last night, Met Office chiefs issued a 'yellow' warning for strong winds until 3pm this afternoon.

A Met Office spokesman said: "A spell of strong winds will move from west to east through Saturday morning, bringing potential travel disruption.

"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely and delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely."
