THE Environment Agency has issued flood alerts after heavy overnight rain.

Storm Erik brought wind and rain to South Cumbria into this morning and as a result the agency says there is a possibility of flooding on the rivers Rothay, Brathay and Leven.

Forecasters say there is a chance of further rain this afternoon, although it is not expected to be as heavy as previously forecast.

The Environment Agency said: "River and lake levels remain high and flooding of roads and farmland remains possible.

"Low lying land and roads in the Langdale, Grasmere, Ambleside, Troutbeck, Windermere, Hawkshead, Rusland Valley, Newby Bridge, Backbarrow, Cartmel, Cark and Winster Valley areas will be affected.

"We continue to closely monitor the situation."

There is a flood warning in place for Keswick campsite but flood warnings for North Morecambe Bay have been lifted.
