THE country’s only Prosecco festival is coming to an East Lancashire town later this year.

A summer’s afternoon spent sipping bubbles and tasting gin may seem a long way away, but tickets are now on sale for Blackburn’s first-ever Prosecco festival, which will take place in King George’s Hall in August.

Described as ‘the UK’s biggest festival for Prosecco lovers’ on Saturday, August 31, Blackburn’s premier entertainment venue will be transformed into a fizz-lover’s paradise, with over 30 different kinds of Cava, Brut, Prosecco and Spumante on offer.

It will be the first time that the festival has come to the town, after organisers spent much of 2018 trialling the event in different locations nationally.

A spokesman said: “Blackburn is really well known for loving its fizz and after huge demand, it was a must to come to the town in 2019.”

Despite the fact that stallholders at the event will predominantly be showcasing the finest of fizz, there will be plenty on offer to satisfy everyone’s taste, as a number of world-class gins will also be available to try and buy.

There will also be an Italian Peroni area inside the hall and a number of caterers will be cooking up a storm to keep hunger at bay.

The spokesman said: “The food is specifically designed to complement the array of fizz that will be on offer.

“There will also be a stage with a dancefloor-filling live band through all the sessions.”

All of the bars will work on a token system, meaning it will be a cash-less event.

Tokens will be available for purchase using cash or card from the token points at the venue.

Tokens are priced at £5 each and can be exchanged for any drink.

Standard entry is from £12.50 and includes festival access, a branded Prosecco Festival flute, a complimentary glass of Prosecco and access to the Italian street food stand.
