CHARITIES in East Lancashire are able to apply for up to £20,000 through money raised by the People's Postcode Lottery.

Applications will open from today and the funding aims to help those promoting human rights, combatting discrimination and the prevention of poverty.

The money is available through three different trusts, the People's Postcode Trust, the Postcode Community Trust and the Postcode Local Trust.

The money will also be available for groups who work to improve the health and wellbeing of communities, including arts and physical recreation project, as well as those which focus on reducing isolation.

Groups that work on flood prevention measures and those looking into renewable energy are also asked to come forward and apply.

There was more than 1,600 projects across the country which successfully applied for funding last year.
