A POSTMASTER was looking to recruit a new member of staff to its ranks 40 years ago.
The Blackburn post office, on Darwen Street, printed the advertisement in the Lancashire Telegraph on January 4, 1979.
It was headlined: "All you'd every want in a job! Be a Postman or Postwoman in Blackburn."
Workers would receive more than £55 a week and wide ranging hours, not just nine to five.
The work included indoor and outdoor, such as sorting, collecting and delivering the mail.
Successful candidates would receive three-and-a-half weeks holiday a year, free uniform and a 'good' pension scheme. They were also told they needed to pass a short test.
