A DISABILITY group has received a major funding boost from a local supermarket.
Community Solutions North West, based in Accrington, has received a donation of £7,621 from the Asda Foundation, which will go towards upgrading their facilities to make them more user-friendly for people with disabilities.
The group aims to empower local people to meet the needs of the community, promoting interdependence, confidence and self-esteem. Services include befriending schemes, social groups, training, counselling and practical support throughout the community.
Mary Shaw, senior co-ordinator at Community Solutions North West, said: “We are very grateful for the help we’ve received from Asda Accrington. Our work is important and it’s lovely to know that such a large company realises the importance of local charity work."
The money from the Asda Foundation will be put towards upgrades to the current venue to make it more accessible to all users. A lift has recently been installed and the donation will go towards connecting it, as well as the installation of a new evacuation chair.
June Smith, Asda Accrington’s community colleague, said: "Supporting smaller, local applications such as Community Solutions North West is really important to us – and we hope it will make a real difference within the local community in Accrington."
