MUSIC fans were disappointed about an evening devoted to Northern Soul's favourite sounds at a Blackburn dance hall.

This picture, taken on March 14, 1979, shows one of the audience members, which numbered around 200 and ranged in age from youngsters to over 20s.

The event was put on by Mecca at the Golden Palms, Blackburn and described as a huge success by the majority of the crowd.

However the management disagreed - and so did some of the Northern Soul fans themselves.

Golden Palms manager Mr Graham Peel was visibly disappointed by the turnout, and although he planned to give fans of this particular type of music a second chance in a few weeks, he reckoned the night was 'not a roaring success.'

Some Soul fans agreed and said the night should have catered for an older audience.
