A GROUP of 12 young people had to be rescued by Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue team after they became trapped in 'thick snow'. 

The group was found stuck in snow near a steep descent on the track leading to Devoke Water at around 10pm on Friday (Jan 18). 

Cumbria Police and a local farmer were also involved in the rescue and there were no injuries. 

The Mountain Rescue Team were called out to another incident which happened yesterday, Jan 22. 

The team was called out at around 1pm to assist two men who became stuck in their vehicles due to heavy snow.

The men were located on Corney Fell, which had been closed to traffic for two days. Both were uninjured. 

A spokesperson from the rescue team said: "I urge all motorists to be aware of changing conditions at this time of year both during the day and especially at night. 

"Always make sure you carry water to drink and a supply of food in case you become stuck. Carry blankets to keep warm and a shovel too to help you get out of the snow. 

"Make sure your phone is charged and that you have plenty of fuel."
