FLOWERS spelling out the word ‘legend’ were placed next to the coffin of Cian Proctor as hundreds of mourners paid respects to the ‘boy with the biggest smile’.

The 18-year-old from Rishton died suddenly on January 8, hours after he was reported missing.

Family and friends made their way into St Peter and St Paul's, Rishton, on Tuesday afternoon as four immaculate black horses pulled the carriage containing Cian’s coffin.

Charlie Puth’s hit song See You Again played as friends entered the church, with Cian’s dad Andy Proctor, along with brothers Colby and Kavaugn carrying his coffin.

Father Christopher Holden said: “We gather here today to celebrate Cian’s life. Amidst the tears of his tragic passing we gather to remember amongst other things, his amazing, wonderful smile.”

Cian’s brother Kavaugn fought through tears as he addressed the congregation with a heartfelt tribute to his little brother, in the form of a self-written song called Some People Go.

Accompanied only by an acoustic guitar, he sang: “Some people go and some people stay, that’s the price we have to pay.

“For the legend that we love will forever be in our hearts.”

Items that held a special importance to Cian and his family were placed on top of his coffin, as the hymn Amazing Grace was sung.

Amongst the items were a trophy he won while at school, a dumbbell representing his love of fitness and photograph of him surrounded by school friends.

In a tribute read out during the service, Cian’s girlfriend Paige Nicholson said: “This isn’t goodbye, I will never say goodbye to you. We are just putting our plans and our future on hold.

“Thank you for showing me what true love really is. You are the love of my life, my soulmate, my best friend.”

In a tribute written on behalf of all Cian’s family, dad Andy Proctor said: “It is difficult to know where to start when describing our beautiful son, Cian.

“From the day he was born to becoming a young adult, there was a lifetime of joy and happy memories.

“Myself and his mum Vicky, along with his twin sister Darrean and his brothers Colby and Kavaugn each have so many memories and happy times together as a family. But today I can only recall Cian’s happy face and his laughter.

“At school he was determined and focused, and he excelled at anything he set his mind to.

“Today is a day that Cian would want us to celebrate his life.

“On this day and every remaining day in my life, my beautiful son will forever remain a young, smiling and happy man.”

Mourners moved on to Accrington Crematorium, before heading to The Shakespeare Hotel in Padiham, where fireworks were let off in memory of the teenager.
