A family who have continually fundraised for a hospice in memory of a loved one, are making a fun run their annual event of choice.

Maria Lomas, whose son Michael died from cancer in 2017, will take part in this years' Bubble Rush, in aid of the East Lancashire Hospice.

Michael, who served in the the Army, was just 29 when he was diagnosed with a rare incurable cancer, which affected his brain, spine and lungs.

Mrs Lomas said: "Michael had intensive chemo and radiotherapy which managed to reduce the size of the tumours, but we were told there was no cure."

Michael, from Great Harwood, was cared for by the hospice before his tragic death on November 24 2017, and since then, the family have made it their mission to raise funds for them.

Maria said: "The hospice made such a difference. The staff and volunteers care so much, and we can’t ever thank them enough.

"We raised thousands doing a brave the shave before his chemo, we’ve taken part in Pretty Mudder, asked for donations instead of flowers at his funeral and we have held a memorial night too."

It will be the second time Mrs Lomas and her family have participated in the Bubble Rush, a fun run event where participants get to run or walk through a number of coloured foam stations.

And this year, Mrs Lomas will take part along with her sister, Angela, daughter, Leanna, niece, Amanda, and Michael's girlfriend Beth.

The event will take place on Saturday April 27 at Pleckgate High School playing fields, Blackburn.
