HOW many landmarks can you spot in this picture of Blackburn?

There's a mix of the old and the new, as the face of the town centre underwent a radical transformation.

This image from the Lancashire Telegraph's archives in 1987 shows demolition work lasting several months nearly over as contractors remove the final traces of the Whitbread brewery buildings in High Street, Blackburn.

This is in preparation for foundation work to start on the new Morrison's superstore.

Viewed from Ciceley Lane, the sloping roof of the market hall can be seen, along with New Telegraph House on the left.

The building on Railway Road was the home of the Lancashire Telegraph before it moved into new town centre offices above a former football merchandise shop in 2017.

That new home is just a stone's throw away on Church Street, with its headquarters sitting across two floors above the former ‘One Rovers’ Shop, which sold Blackburn Rovers Football Club merchandise until its closure in August 2016.

The former Telegraph offices in the heart of Blackburn have now become a town centre living space with 68 flats, with many of the apartments now occupied by tenants.

Perhaps you have a tale to tell about the Whitbread brewery buildings or Blackburn town centre. If so we’d love to hear from you.
