TRAFFIC using the Grane Road between Blackburn and Haslingden faces disruption till the end of the week.
Specialist engineers are tackling a leak on a gas main under the A6177.near it junction with the A56.
Cadent, which maintains North-West gas mains, was called to the site coming into Haslingden from Heap Clough last week.
The leak has now been traced to a 6-inch diameter cast iron gas main that feeds gas to thousands of local homes. Now engineers are digging down to the pipe and complete a repair.
The road is now reduced to single carriageway by the excavation and controlled by temporary traffic lights.
A Cadent spokesman said: " This essential, safety-critical work is expected to continue through this week."
