A DAMAGED road which has tormented motorists over the Christmas period has been temporarily fixed.

Users of Lincoln Way, which runs through the Salthill Industrial Park in Clitheroe, have lashed out over the condition of the road, saying loose tarmac from a damaged repair was an ‘accident waiting to happen’.

But now the council has confirmed it has temporarily fixed the ‘failed repair’ which had been carried out by United Utilities a number of weeks ago.

Sarah Wilcock, who uses the road to get to work five days a week, said the loose tarmac and deep pothole was playing havoc.

She said: “It was only a few weeks ago that this part of the road was fixed and now its worse than it was before.

"There were large chunks of tarmac up on the pavement and lying in the middle of the carriageway.

“It was especially dangerous in the dark, and the first time I noticed it I had to slam my breaks on to avoid running over it at speed.

“The most concerning thing about it is the fact there is no sense of urgency to fix it.

"I know it’s hard to get things done over Christmas but you’d think when it is something like this which could cause an accident, there would be more immediacy about getting it fixed.”

A conversation has also been sparked about the road on social media, with one user saying: “It’s a total waste of money. They come along to do repairs and within a number of weeks its back to the way it was before.”

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “The loose tarmac on Lincoln Way was caused by the failure of a temporary repair which had been made by United Utilities to a damaged cover, which UU had carried out to make the area safe until the cover could be permanently replaced.

“We have visited the site to remove the loose tarmac and carried out another temporary repair. We have contacted United Utilities and understand they are due to replace the cover and make a permanent repair shortly.”
