TEMPERATURES are set to plummet as the cold frost hits East Lancashire.

People in the eastern part of the county can expect to feel the cold today, Friday and during the weekend with temperatures set to drop to as low as zero degrees.

The Met Office had previously predicted snowfall in parts of the North West today but the weather forecaster has said that is looking increasingly unlikely.

The risk of snow falling this weekend across Blackburn, Darwen, Accrington, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale still remains.

A Met Office spokesman said: "A chilly and bright start on Thursday with brisk winds.

"Staying dry into the afternoon with long sunny spells, however it will remain cold throughout.

"It will be a cold, largely sunny Friday, with overnight frost.

"Winds strengthening Saturday, as rain and hill snow spreads east. Rain clearing to sunshine and blustery showers on Sunday and feeling less cold."
