While I fully understand that workers at public sector organisations are not allowed to accept monetary gifts due to strict rules and guidelines I do think that ambulance bosses in London and Surrey are acting like Scrooge.

A "Mystery Santa" has been pinning Christmas cards with either £10 notes or vouchers in them to emergency vehicles stating that they are for coffee and doughnuts as a thank you to the NHS heroes for all the hard work they do.

Because the identity of the benefactor is unknown the staff have been ordered to hand in the festive bonuses.

One furious worker claimed the move has only added to the already low morale of the paramedics, saying that pay and working conditions have suffered severely with all the cutbacks.

Christmas is supposed to be a season of goodwill and a time when we give thanks and spread cheer but obviously not everyone understands this. The Scrooge ambulance bosses are heartless. Our brave emergency services work extremely hard all year, working unsociable hours and saving countless lives, in my opinion they should be allowed to keep the tips as it's the least that can be done to show gratitude and appreciation for their selfless efforts.
