SHEEP rustlers have struck again in Eden prompting police to remind farmers and members of the public to be vigilant in rural areas.
Twenty Swaledale ewes have been stolen from around Dufton, near Appleby, between December 2 and 6. The sheep have identifying marks, including two dots, one blue and one red, on the loin area as well as cut off ear tips and the other split.
It follows the theft last month of 17 Swaledale sheep from Murton, near Appleby.
Police point out that there is now a dedicated Crimestoppers Rural Crime Reporting line to give information anonymously about large-scale industrial fly-tipping, hare coursing, livestock theft, machinery theft, after the crime has been committed.
