OPPONENTS of proposed new kerbside parking charges on a towns roads have stepped up their campaign.
Liberal Democrats in Colne gathered a 2,100 signature petition against Lancashire County Council's plans to bring in pay and display machines to raise cash to help plug the authority's cash gap.
After the refusal of its Cabinet to accept the document on Monday they have formed a campaign group called STOP or Stop On-street Parking Charges.
The Cabinet meeting voted to go ahead with the proposal which will require a traffic regulation order next year when people will be able to object.
Petition organiser and Colne town councillor Jamie Hargreaves, said: “They know the sense of feeling in Colne: with more time we could have got 10,000 names. The campaign goes on!
“It is now up to everyone in Colne to stop this dangerous plan.”
A county council spokesman said: "No decisions have been made."
