Oh good, £2,000 of taxpayers' money has been allocated by a councillor towards "consultation" and "possible costs" of road lining work at the junction between Burneside Road and the cul-de-sac, Webb View (Gazette, November 22, 'Junction an accident waiting to happen').

A county council spokesperson assures us that "if the matter was to be brought forward, a Traffic Regulation Order needed to be issued which would involve studies and consultation"...and..."it was difficult at this stage to put a timescale on when the project would reach completion".

I walk past this junction almost daily. It is blindingly obvious what the problem is - vehicles park in Webb View dangerously close to the junction because the original yellow lines from Burneside Road, presumably authorised by the council, stop 20 yards short of where they should be.

And it is just as obvious what the solution is; a painter, a tin of yellow paint, a two-inch brush and maybe a roll of masking tape.

Total, a couple of hours work, 50 quid tops.
