THE "quintessentially English" renovation of a Lake District hotel has been winning praise from guests.

Linthwaite House, at Windermere, reopened earlier this year after its owners, the Leeu Collection, spent more than £10 million on its new look.

The country house hotel's 30 bedrooms were updated by internationally renowned designer Beverley Boswell; six new suites added; and its bar and conservatory opened up and extended.

The interiors have been designed to reflect Linthwaite's setting, climate and the colours of the Lake District, and to incorporate the best of modern British design and furniture makers.

The Leeu Collection was founded by wealthy Indian businessman Analjit Singh, who has said: "It is in my DNA to build, to create, to develop.”

The company also has three properties in the Cape Winelands of South Africa, and its signature style is described as "bespoke, luxurious, calm, comfortable and elegant interiors".

Linthwaite's 14 acres of grounds have also been reworked, by landscape artist Franchesca Watson, and peppered with sculptures.

Reviewers on Booking.com, Google and TripAdvisor have been full of praise for the hotel's re-style, with one describing the renovation as "outstanding" and another saying: "The attention to detail is second to none and the owner has excelled with the artwork and sculptures."

Meanwhile, The Sunday Times' Susan d’Arcy said: “It’s always had the location, with those peachy panoramas of Lake Windermere. Now, after a £10m renovation, this black-and white-gabled Edwardian mansion has interiors to match."
