ACCRINGTON'S Christmas lights will be switched on at 7.45pm on Thursday November 29 with a firework display and live music.

Events in the new town square begin with the Blessing of the Crib at 4.45pm. followed by three hours of school choirs and entertainers on stage.

The headline act will The Jerseys, a four-piece group who sing the hits of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The cast of Beauty and the Beast panto will also appear on stage before they start performances at Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre from the following night to the December 8.

Comedian Colin Manford will compere.

At 7.45pm the festive lights will be switched on by Mayor, Cllr Mohammed Ayub and Accrington Carnival Queen, Helen Trickett.

The ceremony will be accompanied by a firework display

Broadway will be busy with fairground rides, a magical Frozen snowglobe. and seasonal food stalls .

Hyndburn Council leader Cllr Miles Parkinson said: "It’s a time for families to get together and join in the festivities ."

The Ballroom at Accrington Town Hall will play host to an indoor Christmas craft market.

The Magical Mayoral Market, supporting local charities and community groups, will be on the outdoor market.

Other Hyndburn township light switch ons are taking place next week with Clayton on November 28 in at Barnes Square at 6.30pm and Baxenden on Friday November 30 at the junction of Southwood Drive and Manchester Rd at 6.30 pm.
