A GRAPHIC novelist who worked with the late Stan Lee visited a school.

More than 500 students met with internationally renowned author and script writer, Andy Briggs, at Darwen Aldridge Community Academy last Friday (November 9).

The 46-year-old, who worked with Marvel co-founder Stan Lee on film project Foreverman, has been visiting schools across the North West to talk to children about writing and promote his new book, Drone Racer.

Mr Briggs, who has worked on movie projects Judge Dredd and Freddy vs Jason, presented a talk to Year 7 and 8 students about what it's like to be a writer and the different career opportunities open to authors.

Learning resource community manager Janet McCarthy, who has known Mr Briggs for eight years, said: "The talk was inspirational and changed the perception of writing among young minds.

"It was really fantastic to meet someone from the North West who has done so much with his life."

The talk was also attended by Year 6 pupils from Avondale Primary School on Durham Road, Darwen.

Year 6 teacher Ben Laycock, who went to DACA with the children, said: "Andy Briggs shared his experience of writing in a fantastically fun way, which in turn really engaged the children.

"It opened their minds and made them realise that they all have the ideas and no matter how strange or outlandish they seem any one of these could be developed in to a book, film or song."

Superhero giant Mr Lee died aged 95 on Monday.
