THE MUM of a little boy who lost his battle with cancer has spoken about his agonizing last words.

Charlie Procter, from Church, died on Friday November 9 after a three year battle - but not before telling his mum 'I'm sorry for this'.

The five-year-old died in his parents' arms following a fight which captured the hearts of thousands of people around the world, including international popstar Pink who pledged £10,000 to help get Charlie life-saving treatment in the US.

But despite specialists in the US saying they could treat Charlie, family were soon told he had become too ill to travel for the treatment.

Over £360,000 was raised by the family throughout the course of his illness to help out with costs.

Taking to Facebook on Tuesday morning, just days after Charlie's death, his mum Amber Schofield said: "This is Charlie’s last night at home. This afternoon he will be taken from his home and he will be staying at the hospice until the funeral is arranged, where you will be taken, again, forever.

"You’ve already been taken from me once baby, being able to still cuddle you, hold your hand, sing our song to you, talk to you and still being able to kiss you everyday has been a huge comfort.

"Today you have to leave."

Thousands paid tribute to Charlie in the days following his death, including staff at his favourite football club, Accrington Stanley.

Posting on Twitter, a spokesman for the club said: "Such devastating news to hear of the passing of Charlie Procter.

"All our thoughts at Accrington Stanley Football Club are with Charlie's family."

Just hours before Charlie's death on November 9, Ms Schofield informed all of his supporters that she would no longer be posting pictures of him as he 'no longer looked like Charlie'.

She added that her little boy had also apologised to her saying 'I'm so sorry for this'.

Details for Charlie's funeral are yet to be released.
