A number of incidents, including reports of a cow on the road, were causing trouble for commuters on the M65 this morning.

If you experienced very slow traffic and a few backlogs, this was why.

Motorway police warned drivers to be careful when travelling between junctions two and six of both East and Westbound carriageways.

At around 7am, on the eastbound carriageway between junction two and three heading towards Colne, a cow was spotted on the hard shoulder but was later returned to a nearby field by a farmer.

Traffic was slow between junction six at Whitebirk and junction five at Guide after police were alerted to a breakdown.

The police were also made aware of a pedestrian on the motorway between junction five and four, and were advising drivers to slow down.

A further breakdown was reported between junctions three and four of the M65.
