A TESCO superstore is to close down and be converted into a new cut-price outlet.
Tesco in Rawtenstall will serve customers until January 13 before converting into a Jack's - the new discount version of Tesco.
The retailer’s new chain was launched in September and now has seven stores up and down the country.
Tesco has another large outlet in Haslingden about a mile and a half away from the Rawtenstall store.
A spokesman for the company said: "Today we have announced that we will be converting the Tesco store in Rawtenstall into a new Jack’s store.
"The Tesco store will continue to serve customers until 13th January and our priority now is to support our colleagues with what the changes mean for them."
All 175 members of staff were informed of the changes this morning and will now be offered three options moving forward.
The spokesman said: "The can apply for a role in Jack's, ask for a transfer to a local Tesco store or accept a redundancy offer."
It was confirmed that the filling station and pharmacy will remain operated by Tesco.
