A Lantern Walk is taking place in memory of a football manager who died a week after being diagnosed with a rare, aggressive skin cancer.

The family and friends of 34-year-old Kieran Keigher, who managed Mill Hill St Peter’s Football Club, are organising a community lantern walk on Friday October 12 to help raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The 3km walk will start from Oswaldtwistle Mills at 6.30pm and anyone wishing to attend is asked to arrive no later than 6pm.

Upon registration, participants will be provided with their own lantern which they can decorate and take on the walk.

Just two weeks before his death Kieran, from Blackburn, was forced to visit the hospital after suffering episodes of severe vomiting.

It was during tests to find the cause of the vomiting that the former Old Blackburnians FC player was given the heartbreaking news by doctors that cancer was present in his brain and lungs.

Kieran, who formerly worked as a legal adviser for Farleys Solicitors before moving on to work for BPS Law, died in April 2016 surrounded by his loved ones.

The event on Friday is free, but Kieran's family and friends have asked anyone wishing to take part to collect sponsors to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
