A CAMPAIGNING councillor has won a promise that 'tatty' road signs in his town will be replaced shortly.

Waterside Liberal Democrat Cllr Tony Greaves has been calling for the replacement of the direction indicators at the junction of Albert Road and Queen Street on the main road through Colne since the spring.

He said: "These are probably the tattiest direction signs on any main road in Pendle

"They are a disgrace. I tried to get Lancashire County Council to replace them earlier this spring – hopefully before the North West in Bloom judges came on their inspection of Colne in Bloom.

" I thought they had agreed to put up new signs but it never happened due to priorities elsewhere.”

Harvey Danson, highways manager for Lancashire County Council, said: "Unfortunately, the sign replacement has been delayed. However, we've ordered a new sign and we'll soon have staff available to carry out the work as soon as possible."

Cllr Greaves said: “We will live in hope. We really must not accept this kind of tatty stuff spoiling the street scene in our town.”
