A LEADING religious teacher has been re-bailed following his arrest on suspicion of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Ashraf Sidat, 45, from Blackburn, was arrested on suspicion of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity on Thursday, January 11.

His bail was initially extended until Wednesday, April 11.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "He has been re-bailed but we do not have the date to at this time."

Police were called to Roedean Gardens at 9.50am on January 11 to a report of child grooming.

Sidat had been suspended from Masjide Noorul Islam, Audley Range, pending an investigation.

He has also been suspended from The Islamic Educational Society, of which the mosque is a part.

The arrest came after Mr Sidat was stopped in the street by members of Justice Will Be Served, a self-styled vigilante group who passed information to police.

UPDATE: He was later told by police that no further action would be taken against him.
