I SPENT many enjoyable times on the Padiham pub crawl, in my younger days - do you remember them?
Alma Inn
This was the final farewell in 2014 (pictured), to the homely, small, two roomed drinking den. It had served its patrons since 1897.
Now converted into two residential dwellings.
White Horse
Always the starting point for the pub crawl. Bar billiards, Bass Charrington beers and many happy moments.
Closed its doors in 2008. Now a motor parts and spares store.
Victoria Inn
Thwaites owned hostelry. It had a superb jukebox and a tall, jolly, bespectacled landlord, when I frequented it, back in the seventies.
The Railway Inn
Immensely popular pub. Sporting activities were keenly contested. Former landlord, Archer Lee, was a legend - and he still is!
New Black Bull
It was a Tetley house on my Padiham pub crawling jaunts. Who remembers Skol and Slalom 'lager'?
Closed in 2013.
Kings Arms
This was next door to the New Black Bull. So it was out of one - and into t'other! Thankfully, it has been 'found' and re-opened as Katy Kelly's. And is now serving five cask ales!
Britannia Inn
Always an unmissable visit on the pub crawl. Lots of characters and friendly banter guaranteed. Another former Bass Charrington house.
Now a private dwelling.
The Grove
I knew this pub as the Hargrove Arms in my Padiham drinking days. It was a Whitbread boozer back then. Now a convenience store.
The Whalley Range
This was my local back in the seventies and early eighties. Arthur and Sally Knight were at the helm. Yet another Bass boozer in the days I was a regular. So many happy memories.
Sadly closed in 2011 and converted into three dwellings.
