TODAY we launch East Lancashire's premier business awards.

The Lancashire Telegraph's Business Awards 2006 will see the cream of the crop of the region's businesses line up against each other to compete for top honours and a collection of prestigious titles including Business of the Year.

Awards will be presented at a glittering awards night on November 17 which will be hosted by Dianne Oxberry, BBC North West Tonight's weather presenter, and include guest speaker Jon Sopel, BBC presenter.

The awards are supported by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and see every type of achievement honoured.

This year two new categories have been introduced to recognise the contribution of IT and digital media, and the environment.

Kevin Young, editor of the Lancashire Telegraph, said: "Every year the judges in East Lancashire's premier business awards are surprised at the enterprise, dynamism, ingenuity and talent displayed in some truly amazing success stories.

"I'm sure this year will be no different as we look at the endeavours of a wide spectrum of companies and people all eagerly competing for titles that have come to be valued as examples of the best that East Lancashire has to offer."

Entrants now have until Friday, September 8 to complete their entry forms.

Previous winners include last year's Business of the Year, the Hurstwood Group, and Start-up Business of the Year, It's My Party.

Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the NWDA, said: "The NWDA is committed to maintaining a competitive business environment and creating a dynamic and sustainable economy for England's North West.

"We are proud of the wealth of talent that exists within the region, and aim to nurture its innovative and entrepreneurial spirit.

"It is vital that we recognise and reward businesses that have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence, and inspire all our businesses to strive for continuous improvement.

"The Agency is pleased to support this event, which will promote and showcase business excellence and best practice, highlighting the strength and vibrancy of Lancashire businesses and their valued contribution to England's North West."
