The man from Edinburgh, who has not yet been named, had the winning ticket for Saturday's draw.

He is to collect £7,084,472 and will celebrate his win and discuss what he plans to spend it on in the Scottish capital tomorrow.

He joins a list of Scottish jackpot winners, including Chris and Colin Weir who won £161 million on the Euromillions lottery in 2011.

The couple displaced former postal worker Angela Kelly, from East Kilbride, who became Scotland's biggest winner in August 2007 when she won a £ 35,425,411.80 EuroMillions jackpot.

John McGuiness was the previous record winner when he won around £10 million in 1997 but lost millions of pounds investing in Livingston Football Club.

The Weirs have established a charitable trust and donated millions of pounds to community projects but their contribution to the Scottish independence campaign has received most attention.

The couple have given £5.5 million to the SNP and Yes Scotland since their record-breaking win, according to Electoral Commission figures.

The Euromillions winners describe themselves as "lifelong supporters of independence'' and defended their decision to donate funds to the pro-independence campaign in a rare public statement earlier this year.
