Striker Alan Lee is believed to be a target for Preston North End - if Ipswich can sign Francis Jeffers from Blackburn to replace him.

Lee, 6ft 2ins and 28 years old, seems like an ideal replacement for Danny Dichio.

The Galway-born Irish international is no stranger to the north, having played for Burnley and Rotherham before an £850,000 move to Cardiff in 2003.

He also went down in history as the man who scored the 88th minute goal which condemned Leeds to relegation last season.

His ability to hold up the ball could be the missing link up front for a North End front line blessed with talent but liable to get out-muscled.

The Tractor Boys have had two bids rejected for Jeffers but Rovers are willing to do business at what chairman John Williams calls a "reasonable price", which could prompt a third bid and free up Lee for a move north.
